About the time they called me "Jackie"

I've been obsessed with the song "Jackie" for the last few weeks, just like I've been obsessed with "Next" time before. Speaking of "Next", I printed off the words to the song at work wanting to memorize them and forgot them near my register the other day. I wonder if one of my co-workers will find it and read it and what they would think about me. Anyway, "Jackie" is originally by Jacques Brel, as is "Next" and they were both covered by my beloved Scott Walker - if this was the 90's, I would have made a I Love Scott Walker Zine by now.

When I visited Chehalis months ago to go to Yardbirds, I found a Marc Almond tape from the early 90's and I had left it untouched for a long time. I recently opened it (how long it has been since I took the wrapping off a cassette tape!) and only recently realized it has a cover of "Jackie" called "Jacky." How fortuitous. However, Almond's cover sounds basically like Scott Walker's version, except with cheesy 90's goth beats. They do nothing for the song, nor do the ominous, choral "ahhhhh's" near the end. He does a great version of it vocally, except it has those damn goth synth beats. I wonder why he even bothered. It isn't quite ruined, but it makes it sound dated.
